All In A Day
As I lie awake in bed,
It’s late at night; the world is dead.
The lights are out. There’s dark all round.
My sweet wife’s near me sleeping sound.
As I toss and turn within this bed,
These thoughts are running through my head.
My thoughts return to yesterday,
Of things I did and didn’t say.
Of things tomorrow we need to do.
Like gardening and housework too.
Then my mind thinks of the past.
Of happy times that made me laugh.
My thoughts return to childhood days.
Of mom and dad —and games we played.
Like riding bikes, hide and seek,
And going swimming in the creek.
There was childhood mischief now and then.
With my dog and I and several friends.
Yes, I think of those times again.
Those were happy times back then.
My friends and I had plans and schemes
And all the usual childhood dreams.
But, as my thoughts return to now,
I find my life has changed somehow.
I remember not so long ago.
The daily routine of life was dull.
Just work, sleep, and pay the bills.
Not much in the way of thrills.
I found myself thinking now and then:
I wish I were a kid again.
But, now I find my life has changed.
No more dullness now remains!
What happened was we asked to be saved.
By that I mean we knelt and prayed.
We asked the Lord to forgive our sins.
We opened up our hearts to him.
We were baptized and joined the church.
Now we both put Jesus first.
Our daily routine has not changed much.
Most of the changes went on in us.
We still work, sleep, and pay the bills.
But, now our lives are full of thrills!
Were teaching others to give them light,
And we say a prayer to God each night.
We ask for help to be more like Him.
We ask forgiveness for any sins.
I give thanks for I am happy within.
I no longer wish to be a kid again.
Now I can have those plans and schemes.
And all those other childhood dreams.
For my fondest wishes may now come true.
When Jesus comes for me and you.———–R. W. Johnson—-(1995)
