Creatures Of The Night
I’m often on the run and scared.
I wouldn’t stay even if I dared.
Too much killing on the news.
Too much violence caused by booze.
Everywhere I look there is sin.
What chance have I to ever win.
I am a creature of the night.
I’ve lost the will to stay and fight.
I sneak along from door to door.
I do not want to make a score.
Is there no hope for one like me?
There is no end that I can see.
Then, suddenly, I see the light.
It doesn’t give me such a fright.
I know I’ll never have to fight.
I hang on with all my might.
The light is God from up above.
Sending down His precious love.
I can walk upright and never fear.
Just as long as I keep Him near.
I hold Him tightly in my heart.
I know we’ll never be apart.
No longer a creature of the night.
I now walk proudly and upright.
I know I am not of this world.
I let my fingers now uncurl.
I am just a stranger passing through.
Once I was feeling just like you.
You can join me in my quest.
You’ll learn we are the very best.
We are of the family of God,
that speaks softly & carries a rod.
He will be with us wherever we go.
Others will join us because they know.
We are travelers who are going home.
To a heavenly place we call our own.———R. W. Johnson—–(2014)
