Forgetting Not To Remember
I keep forgetting not to remember
you are someone that I used to know.
I’ve done a lot since last September.
I can’t remember everywhere I go.
I’ve traveled around everywhere.
I saw the stars down in Kokomo.
I spent some time at the World’s Fair.
I even skied the Alps, —you know.
Around the world in 80 days.
Through storms and good weather.
I could hardly see for the haze.
Then, from tall mountains, see forever.
Still, I keep forgetting not to remember
you are someone that I used to know.
I had a ball on San Francisco Bay.
the Alaskan cruise was super fun.
At times it stayed light almost all day.
It was fun watching the whales run.
I enjoyed Paris, with its nighttime life.
The food was rich and delicious.
I saw the Eiffel Tower lit up at night.
The beauty answered all one’s wishes.
An African safari was really right.
The monkeys were funny throwing kisses.
But, I keep forgetting not to remember
you are someone that I used to know.
Though I have kept busy while gone.
I can’t put it out of my mind.
I remember just where we went wrong.
I have always thought that you were fine.
So much more were we than friends.
I can’t get you out of my mind.
I guess which is right depends.
Are you looking from your eyes or mine?
From my eyes we would never be apart.
From your eyes we were friends, —no more.
To accept that really ripped up my heart.
I can’t forget your goodbye kiss at the door.
So, I keep forgetting not to remember
you are someone that I used to know.
