The Wart

God knows I tried every day.

Each time someone new would come my way.

Someone of the opposite sex.

Someone who I could not vex.

I would strive to have a connection.

I cannot think of a single exception.

But, every time I would come up short.

Do you think it was because of the wart?

I have a large wart on my nose.

It is prominent wherever I go.

You would think I was putting on a show.

I must find someone who looks beyond this.

To what is on the inside to see if it fits.

I have been told “Have it removed.”

If I did, it would feel crude.

By that, I mean it defines who I am.

I am not a wart,—- I am a man.

If she can see beyond it, she’s for me.

Then, I can remove it and feel free.

Until then, it is my guiding light.

Will you be with me tonight?
