The Golden Age Of Magic (Chapter 6)

The battles continued in the usual way.

Neither side was there to play.

They tried, to the best of their abilities

to kill one another. All in futility.

One side would get the upper hand.

Then the other side would retake the land.

Anathea finally said: “This has got to end.”

“Extreme action is called for to make a mend.”

“it is time to find ‘The Watchers’, if I can.”

“What?  Watchers? A myth of man?”

“Some say they are Tangura survivors.”

“They watch because now they are wiser.”

“If this is true, they may be willing to help.”

“How will you find these mythical whelps?”

“I heard they were giants, not whelps.”

“In that case, pray they will give you help.”

“There is a mountain to the east.”

“The top covered with mist, as thick as yeast.”

“Rumors are that they reside there.”

“I will go there with a plea and a prayer.”

All the Wizards were against such an act.

But, they knew they couldn’t stop her. It’s a fact.

Two days later, she was on her way.

She zapped as close as she could get that day.

The rest of the way, she went on foot.

She took a lot of time to listen and look.

It was a rugged climb up the mountain.

After clearing the mist, she saw a fountain.

She approached it with caution.

She saw her reflection. All fogged then.

A voice said: “I am the oracle of ancient knowledge.”

“I know why you have come.” It acknowledged.

“You have come here only for good.”

“You will be helped. Use it like you should.”

She was given the ability to be a ‘Great Deceiver.’

She was told where to find the ‘Lance Of Truth.’

The lance had unlimited power. She saw the proof.

“Use this knowledge wisely. You can only come once.”

“You will obey.—- This is our hunch.”

She awakened lying on the ground.

The fountain was no where around.

Was she dreaming. Maybe in a trance?

No, because beside her was the lance.

She picked it up and it changed into a wand.

By thought, she could change it through her bond.

The lance and her were one.

To be passed on upon her death to a deserving one.

From there, she zapped back to the keep.

She told the other Wizards about her feat.

No, she had not seen a ‘Watcher.’

But, she felt they were still watching her.

She told them what a deceiver could do.

They were shocked. Could this really be you?

What will transpire now will be told later.

Time for me to go feed my gator.————-R.W. Johnson—–(2019)
