Funny How Time Slips Away
I had a surprise the other day.
I went to lunch in the usual way.
There I met an old high school friend.
I never expected to see her again.
The high school years were long ago.
Far from here now, don’t you know.
She was happy, almost in tears.
Because she hadn’t seen me in years.
We were close. She dated a friend of mine.
I thought they would get married, in time.
She said she had been married for years.
To another though, she added with fear.
She said her husband recently died.
She was on vacation to forget, she lied.
She was with a female friend.
She needed a change. Why pretend.
We had a long talk about the good old days.
We laughed, and joked about our silly ways.
After awhile, it was time to go.
I said now I would miss her so.
She said it was good we met anyway.
Isn’t it funny how time slips away.
