The Fog

      The Fog

A mysterious fog appeared in the evening.

The kind that makes you think of people grieving.

Funny noises were heard coming from the fog.

Screeches, scraping, gurgling, like from a bog.

A friend went outside to check it out .

He didn’t come back. He was nowhere about.

We were In a log cabin in the woods.

Lights front and back only lit up what it could.

We looked out all of the windows.

We only saw fog. It gave us chills.

Suddenly, all the lights went out.

We were scared, as we looked about.

We found a lantern and got it lit.

The dog was barking. Throwing a fit.

We heard some thumping on the door.

Then a loud crash , and we heard no more.

There were 3 of us still in the cabin.

We were all afraid of what would happen.

We lit a fire in the fireplace real quick.

We locked all windows & doors. Candles were lit.

Then the moaning outside began.

The girls said ”Check it out. Be the man.”

“I’m not going out there. I swear.”

“There is something totally wrong out there.”

“Why is there a fog in the middle of summer?”

“All that noise out there is a real bummer.”

“I think maybe we entered the Twilight Zone.”

“Oh, be real, will you. Where is your phone?”

“We don’t have a land phone. No cell service either.”

“My wife wanted to be secluded. Do you want to beat her?”

A scream came from behind the cabin.

It sounded like a bunch of man men.

We were all really getting shook up.

I was feeling a cramp in my gut.

“Don’t you even have a TV?”

“Yes, but the power is off, you see.”

“Let me out of here!!”, & one girl ran out.

She was gone before we could even shout.

It was quiet for a short spell.

Then, she screamed & started yelling ‘help!’

I grabbed my rifle and a few shells.

“If it comes in I’ll blow it to hell.”

“If what comes in” she said.

“Whatever wants to make us dead.”

Then there began a shaking.

Like an earthquake in the making.

It stopped and we looked outside.

No more fog. Nowhere to hide.

We went outside and found nothing.

Our friends were gone. We started cussing.

“What the hell just happened here?”

“I have no idea. Just give me a beer.”

We never found out another thing.

We were afraid what it all would bring.

We told the law the friends left for town.

They never came back. They were nowhere around.

The law made a missing persons search.

They never got a single alert.

The mystery has never been solved.

We wouldn’t mention the fog, we avowed.
