Night Flight
I see her moving through the night.
Not much more than a shadow.
I want to keep her in my sight.
If my nerves were not so raddled.
Then I see her take to flight.
To believe my eyes is a real battle.
She rides the wind like a kite.
Like a cowboy in the saddle.
I run to meet her as she lands.
I look but, she’s not there.
Then I feel the touch of hands.
She runs them through my hair.
I jump but, try to be a man.
As I turn, she’s standing there.
She smiles and covers with a fan.
All I can do, with effort, is stare.
She smells like the air after a rain.
Clean and fresh and alive with life.
She says “No, you’re not insane”
“I am a creature of the night.”
“To me flying is just a game.”
“I put my heart into each flight.”
I stammer and try not to sound lame.
I say “ Your as beautiful as a starlit night.”
She smiles and says” Would you like to join me?”
“I can take you to ride the wind.”
“I say “ Anything, if, with me you’ll be.”
“You cannot go without me to send.”
I hold her hand and soon I feel free.
Flying through the night on the wind.
I cannot describe what there was to see.
I am wishing she will stay with me then.
She says it is impossible. “I am only here at night”
“Once a month when the moon is full.”
“That is when I make my flight.”
I say “Where are you from & where do you go?”
She says “I am a creature of the night.”
“The rest is only for me to know.”
She says “It is time for me to take my final flight.”
I yell “I will be here whenever the moon is full.”
