Hello honey it’s me.

What did you think

when you heard I was back in town?

Did you come to see,

or ask your shrink

If it was me or some other clown?

Did the kids know?

Did they think

it was their long lost daddyo?

I’ve been traveling all around.

If it happened, I was there.

Quick with the news & sound.

Flash Back

                   Flash Back.

I saw her coming in the door.

I didn’t want to be there anymore.

Someone said. “It’s a party. Just relax.”

But, the memories kept coming back.

Back to a time of wine and roses.

She made my song. I didn’t compose it.

She made my day. She made my life.

If things were different, she’d be my wife.

Flash back. Flash back. It keeps coming back.

Back to a time of fast cars and romance.

The time of my life when I was young.

We kissed on our very first dance.

Right from the start I knew she was the one.

Flash back. Flash back. We can’t go back.

After awhile, I began to relax.

Then I saw her making tracks.

She was headed right toward me.

No place to hide that I could see.

She grabbed my arm with a smile.

“Don’t go. Stay around for awhile.”

“I came tonight cause I heard you’d be here.”

“I have something I want to make clear.”

Flash back. Flash back. It keeps coming back.

Back to a time of fast cars and romance.

The time of my life when I was young.

We kissed on our first dance.

Right from the start I knew she was the one.

Flash back. Flash back. We can’t go back.

“I was young when we were a number.”

“I made a mistake & pulled us asunder.”

“I was afraid to make the commitment.”

“I guess I didn’t have the equipment.”

“It was the biggest mistake of my life.”

“I have suffered since & want to make it right.”

“Maybe we could still make a score.”

“If you would only take me back once more.”

Flash back Flash back. it keeps coming back.

Back to a time of fast cars and romance.

the time of my life when I was young.

We kissed on our first dance.

Right from the start I knew she was the one.

Flash back Flash back. We ‘can’ go back.

A Real Dilemma

      A Real Dilemma

We met again just outside of town.

At a small café that we had found.

We tried again to work it out.

We both knew what it was about.

I know it looks like we don’t belong.

Yet we still go on and on.

There are differences to work out.

That seems to be what it’s all about.

Round and around and around we go.

We seem to be actors in a show.

We know where this plot is headed.

Even though we haven’t read it.

Try as we might, this circle won’t break.

We just don’t have what it takes.

You always say for me not to go.

Alone at night, I feel really low.

I need you there to keep me warm.

Yet, I don’t want to face the storm.

I always thought that it was me.

Who needed saving for eternity.

But, it seems that we both are lost.

Will we go on at any cost?

Round and around and around we go.

We seem to be actors in a show.

We know where this plot is headed.

Even though we haven’t read it.

Try as we might, this circle won’t break.

We just don’t have what it takes.

You’re a part of me I can’t give up.

I must keep drinking from the cup.

The taste is sweet, but later it’s  bitter.

Yet,—- I feel there is a fit here.

You feel the same about it too.

Yet, we don’t know what to do?

Neither will stop doing what we do.

There will never be another you.————-R. W. Johnson—–(2014)

Love

      Love

When love comes into one’s life

there is little anger or strife.

Love is a precious thing

to be treated as a fragile thing.

There is many types of love.

Most precious is from God above.

There is love for fellow man.

You try to help them all you can.

There is love for a certain one.

A soulmate, they may become.

There is love for an animal, a pet.

They may love you even more yet.

If you’re on top of the world

looking down on creation

and the only explanation

you have is the  love you’ve found

ever since I’ve been around.

Then you know a love with no bounds.

Love may come and love may go

but, love will always let you know

you’ve been blessed by being in love.

Treat it as a gift from above.

If love is returned it’s heaven on earth.

You will find it’s what it’s worth.————–R. W. Johnson—–(2014)

The Beginning

      The Beginning

We went for a drink at the local watering hole.

My thirst was burning a hole down to my sole.

My buddies and I were having a real good time.

Then she walked in & I went out of my mind.

I couldn’t walk.

I couldn’t talk.

All I could do is gawk.

A fire started burning deep inside.

It was from the drink, —–I lied.

I knew it was from the looks of her.

A living, walking dream for sure.

No one else paid her any mind.

To me she was the greatest find.

Pull it together boy.

Stop gawking with joy.

Get over there and do your thing.

Before some other guy takes a fling.

I walked up and started jabbering away.

She said “Come again, what did you say?”

My face turned real red.

“Sorry, I must be out of my head.”

“What seems to be the problem?”, she said.

“Well, it’s just that you’re so dog gone pretty.”

“You’re  like a beautiful, long haired, kitty.”

“Why, no one has ever said that to me before.”

“I can’t see why? You, I could always adore.”

“You’re a regular Romeo aren’t you.”

“What’s your name? Don’t say Don Juan will do.”

I told her my name & she told me hers.

I felt like she deserved diamonds and furs.

We continued to talk for some time.

Before we knew it, it was closing time.

I told her I had come in with friends.

“How I’ll get home now just depends.”

“Seems they have left some time ago.”

“I’ll take you wherever you need to go.”

I said “I’d like to see you again, if I could.”

Looks like I’m into something good.

Because she said she would like that.

So that is where it is all at.

But, I’m playing my cards with extra care.

Cause I think this is going somewhere.——R. W. Johnson—–(2014)

Wanting More

      Wanting More

Here we are, just the two of us.

Were having fun together.

You never have been in a rush.

No matter what the weather.

You say you love me , but do you show it?

I want affection that goes much deeper.

I feel more like company; it’s all I get.

I want to feel that you are a keeper.

I have this hole that needs to be filled.

It’s an emotional need of mine.

Until the day my emotions are killed,

I will always have this need of mine.

I’m afraid to let you go.

Because I need you to fill this hole.

If you can’t, I really don’t know

if I can go on with this show.

We agree on most things of life.

A better friend I couldn’t find.

You stand by in times of strife.

You’re sweet, gentle, and kind.

There is more that I need from this.

It is hard to put into words.

I want to live a life of bliss.

Have you heard a word?

I need a love that captures me

and takes me to heaven on earth.

A love that stimulates me.

A love that is more than I am worth.

I don’t want companionship only.

I need more from you than that.

I want real love, not a phony.

Loving me for me is where it’s at.

I’m afraid to let you go.

Because I need to fill this hole.

If you can’t, I really don’t know

if I can go on with this show.

I want a love that will last through time.

A love written down in history.

Let generations know you were mine.

A blazing romance of mystery.

Others will be perplexed as to why

our love is such a special thing?

How it could have me flying so high,

yet, seem as common as anything?

Are my ideals set way too high?

Do I need to bring it down a notch?

Love me & we’ll write it in the sky.

Make it last forever. Start the watch.——–R. W. Johnson—–(2014)

Time Running Out

      Time Running Out

It never rains in California.

Words from a famous song.

But, girl don’t they warn ya.

Today, it is more true than wrong.

The Grapes Of Wrath  all over again?

This time in the other direction.

Will Calif. become a dust bowl of sin?

Rain in the forecast? I see no inflection.

Desert Pete will be right at home.

Even rabbits will carry a canteen.

A sign of the end, we’ve been shown.

Just one of many signs we’ve seen.

What does it take to know time is short?

By the time you repent

there will be nothing to report.

All these signs were sent

to let you know you are at earth’s end.

Pick up a Bible & read it for yourself.

Then, what you believe will depend

on your attitude and how you felt.

The Holy Spirit is striving with you.

Time to take action & save your soul.

Are you going to be Satan’s fool?

Or, will you awake from your sleepy loll.

Just surrender, accept and confess.

Who could ask for any more?

Yet, who would do any less?

Your way is clear. Go for it.

The reward is free and the very best.

Time is short. Take the bit.——————-R. W. Johnson—–(2014)

Communication Lacking

      Communication Lacking

I came because you said you had something to say.

it’s been awhile, I’m sorry I have been away.

My job takes me out of town much of the time.

It’s not real fair to you, but you are still mine.

Then you tell me you need some time apart.

We’ve been apart. What is troubling your heart?

You can’t seem to be able to put it into words.

You need to try. Reading minds is for the birds.

I think without you I just can’t make it.

I am afraid that I can’t even fake it.

You say you are not trying to hurt me.

What is going on. Can you hear my plea?

It is nothing that you did or didn’t do.

Then was it something you did do?

No, it’s not that. It’s hard to explain.

This is like 20 questions guessing game.

Please, no tears, just tell it like it is.

I am trying. This is something that is.

That is what? Remember, I can’t guess.

I am sorry about it all. It’s such a mess.

What is a mess? I need to know.

Our situation is a mess I’m feeling low.

I am still no closer to understanding it all.

Just listen. I will explain before I bawl.

I am waiting. Just say it like it is.

Don’t rush me. First of all. There is no ‘his’.

What does that mean? I don’t get it.

There is no one else. Just forget it.

I didn’t say there was. Get to the point.

What point? I don’t have a point.

Then why the need for time apart?

It is hard to put into words . I’m not smart.

Sure you are. Who said you weren’t smart?

No, I’m not smart enough to say the right words.

Well, right now, there’s nothing being heard.

Do you see what I am trying to say?

It’s about as clear as night and day.

So far you haven’t said anything.

This would be easier if I had had a fling.

What? Did you have a fling?

No!! Can’t you understand anything.

With that she left the room.

I felt dumber than a broom.

Is there something I am missing here?

I threw my hands in the air  in fear.

Looks like this ‘love boat’ has run a ground.

I’m standing here with no one around.

Fame And Glory

      Fame And Glory

Tell me,  do you have a claim to fame?

Accomplished  great things in your name?

Did you win a trophy or maybe a metal?

Came out on top after all was settled?

Or, are you just an average Joe?

Someone who has nothing to show.

Does that make you small around others?

You’re in the majority, like many others.

But, there is one way you can  shine.

No matter who you are or the time.

Be a disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Work at it with all your might.

I know you can do nothing on your own.

Except you’ll have all the power of the throne.

The Holy Spirit will lead the way.

Every minute of your day.

Just cover yourself with the armor of God.

You’ll be protected no matter what odds.

You’ll save souls of  which you weren’t aware.

In heaven, you’ll meet them everywhere.

Each soul saved is a stone in your crown.

Hope you have a strong neck. Don’t frown.

Then you will have a claim to fame.

But, all the glory will be in His name.

No praise or glory will go to your head.

For, without the Lord, you would be dead.

What About Me ?

      What About Me?

I saw you from across the room.

Walking in a cloud of gloom.

Your smile usually lit up a room.

It’s gone now. Much too soon.

I’ve been your friend for a long time.

I knew that guy wasn’t your kind.

You thought he was the special one.

Then he dumped you just for fun.

Now you are down in the dumps.

You wonder how he could be such a chump.

As your friend I know you did the same.

For years you acted just as insane.

Dumping one man after another.

I know. I am not your mother.

I know you were searching for ‘Mr. Right’.

You thought this last guy was out of sight.

You thought you finally found him.

Now, you are looking pretty grim.

Many men in your past felt the same.

They were serious,—– to you, a game.

They were dumped without a thought.

Now you see just what you wrought.

What comes around goes around.

Karma has knocked you to the ground.

Maybe you have looked to far and wide.

When he was here right by your side.

I am your friend, as you can see.

Yet I ask the question. What about me?—–R. W. Johnson—–(2014)
