Mother’s Day

      Mother’s Day

Tomorrow is Mother’s Day again.

Once a year we honor them.

My mother is no longer around.

She stepped into tomorrow, I found.

It is an easier way to look at death.

Thank God,  her memory hasn’t  faded yet.

For all with mothers still alive.

Tomorrow, her special day will arrive.

Treat her to a special meal or outing.

Maybe flowers or candy. No pouting.

Tell her you love her because you do.

Without her, you wouldn’t be you.

Being a mother is a very tough job.

God didn’t want this to be odd.

He made a woman ready to do the job.

It is a job that really reflects God.

Not all mothers are loved by their own.

Often, it is not her fault, it is shown.

The cases where a mother has fallen short,

there are extenuating circumstances to sort.

Most of us love our mothers with good reason.

To say we don’t would fall just short of treason.

Our mothers gave their lives to raise us right.

A mother’s love for their offspring is no respite.

So do your best to make her proud.

Make your love stand out in the crowd.

God would do no less for me & you.

Your mother is special. She loves you too.

An Adventure Not Worth Repeating

      An Adventure Not Worth Repeating

We were just kids at the time.

We didn’t know what was dangerous & what wasn’t.

It was decided we would explore an old mine.

Five of us headed out with sack lunches.

We rode our bikes about five miles.

Then, we hiked down an old dirt road.

It went down the side of a hill. We had smiles.

The feeling of a new adventure was  a real goad.

We went for about 2 miles. There it stood.

A big black hole in the side of the hill.

There were old mounds of dirt and wood.

What appeared to be rails, remained still.

The kind ore carts would be rolled on.

They disappeared down the middle of the mine.

It was very dark inside. Not far in light was gone.

We started in with lights, taking our time.

It wasn’t long till we came to a branch.

Three of us went on straight ahead.

The other two went right, a smaller tunnel.

The two of us went on, watching our head.

After awhile, it narrowed like a funnel.

Quickly, we came to a huge cave in.

By lights, we saw we could climb up and over.

It was a very low space to fit in.

We crawled up and over a pile of boulders

Once past the cave in, we continued on.

The tunnel curved to the right

After a good distance, it was water, we came upon.

We decided to wade on in. Right.

It soon was up to our waste but, we kept going.

We tripped on something. It was submerged rails.

We went on. If we had a boat we could be rowing.

Then we saw lights & heard voices. We yelled a hail.

It was our three buddies. We had made a circle.

They were at the water’s edge.

We had scared them enough to make their blood curdle.

Their tunnel went straight. .Ours cut off, like a wedge.

Their tunnel was flooded from there on.

We decided we would not explore anymore.

The water was real cold, with mud that made a bond.

When we got out, we had our lunch, and more.

We exchanged tales of how we felt.

We told the others of crawling over the cave in.

We acted brave. Didn’t really say how we felt.

We said we would not tell where we had been.

just in case we ever decided to come back.

That never happened. I think we were scared.

Now, years later, we can talk about our track

we laid down when we were young & didn’t care.

Easter Remembered

      Easter Remembered

Today is Easter. A time to remember.

A sacrifice made, so loving and tender.

Though today’s Easter may not be right.

It’s not the day, as much as the site.

What is brought to mind about that day.

The day Jesus has risen & why we pray.

Without his death, there is no forgiveness.

To conquer death was His business.

Easter is about His resurrection.

Now, were assured to make the connection.

We to, can have everlasting life.

Escape all the pain and strife.

Be one with Him who overcame.

Be brought back into the fold in His name.

What greater thoughts can there be.

Dwell on this. Keep Easter free.

Free from the bunnies and eggs.

Free from all the pagan mistakes.

Give thanks to the Lord for all He has done.

For, without Him, we would be done.

The Birth Of Love

      The Birth Of Love

Long, long ago, in the Garden Of Eden.

God created man, with a good reason.

In His own image, God created him.

He worshiped God as his creator, then.

Then man asked “Why am I alone?”

“I need someone to call my own.”

So, God created woman as his helpmate.

It was perfect,—– not a mistake.

This is how love came to be.

Love between man & woman, see.

It was perfect at the very start.

Till Satan came along & tore it apart.

Through the ages, since that time.

Love hasn’t always been real kind.

But, when the real thing comes along.

You’re back in the garden, where you belong.

Things become perfect again.

The real love grows through thick and thin.

Satan may try to mess things up.

But, if both of you are tough.

Also, if you are wise in your ways.

Neither will give Satan any sway.

Your love will prevail against all odds.

Proving that man is worth this gift of God.

This gift of love, given with all its blessings.

That leads back to God. It’s truly refreshing.

So, if you find a ‘helpmate’ to love.

Treat her as a gift from above.

No greater gift was ever given.

Till He gave His son, & we were forgiven.

Allergies

      Allergies

It is allergy time again.

There’s  yuck dripping from your chin.

You cough, hack, and pee your pants.

Get choked up, like in a trance.

Your eyes will water and burn.

You look like you swallowed a worm.

Your nose will run. You’re not having fun.

The ground is parched from too much sun.

Things still bloom, sometimes in vain.

They would bloom more, if it would rain.

Pollens pollute the air.

Allergens are everywhere.

There  is no place to run and hide.

You feel like you are half alive.

Is there nothing we can do?

Is there something to swallow or chew?

Over the counter meds are a joke.

They don’t help to lessen the smote.

You won’t be able to sleep at night.

All the coughing & hacking just ain’t right.

Mother nature is smacking you around.

Maybe, you should live underground.

They say you should take a sea cruise.

But, with sea sickness, you’ll still lose.

Try a dry climate, like desert living.

Remember, a sunburn is unforgiving.

Just hang in there and tough it out.

Sooner or later, you’ll be done with this bout.

Then, maybe, you can breathe again.

Until then, good sneeze there, my friend.

Life

      Life

There is only one way out and one way in.

If you find your way in, can you get out?

If you can’t get out, you’re stuck within.

There must be a way to work it out?

There are mirrors that show your sin.

Don’t just stare, or start to pout.

Find your way out. Time is slim.

You have got to work it out.

You’ll be stumped again & again.

Don’t waste time nosing around the grout.

There is only one way you can win.

Face your fears head on while you’re about.

To look deep within is not a sin.

Keep on working till you figure it out.

Be brave, like other women and men.

It takes time to find the right route.

You can’t always end up with a win.

That is what it is all about.

A learning process that comes from within.

When you succeed, it will all work out.

The Bitter Truth

      The Bitter Truth

Things have really gotten wild.

She wanted money for an unborn child.

People have sold their soul for success.

just to get ahead of all the rest.

People have thought they found a way.

To exploit others in every way, every day.

The mighty dollar rules all thought.

To get rich is all they have sought.

It seems honest ways are forgotten.

They are so corrupt, they are rotten.

They’d  rob their mother to get ahead.

They won’t be missed when they are dead.

Jail time doesn’t detour them much.

They just scheme more to make the bucks.

They will switch to ‘white collar crimes.’

They will work at home. They have time.

Is nothing anymore on the up and up?

Can you be sure they’re not out to make a buck?

What you would say: By hook or crook.

Opportunity for many is all it took.

Is society responsible for this downward turn?

Is it the destruction of the family unit, of concern?

Things just aren’t like the ‘good old days’.

When most people were honest at work or play

You didn’t have to lock your doors.

People respected your private hoard.

There was almost no ‘white collar crime.’

If you did the job, you did the time.

Things are on a downhill roll.

Things will get lower than low.

When we hit bottom it will be over.

We will be pushing up daises & clover.

There is no recovery in sight.

Start praying with all your might.

There is little else you can do.

The end is coming for me and you.-

Local Deaths Bring On Thoughts

      Local Deaths Bring On Thoughts

“What was that?” I said in shock.

“I heard a bang that shook the cot.”

After 6 bodies were found in just 5 days.

I had been scared in many ways.

In this quiet, agricultural town.

Usually, there is not much going down.

There hasn’t been a murder in some time.

Now, there seems to be all kinds.

One was killed in a shootout with police.

A winery owner killed his investor with a shot.

Then, with police chasing, about to be caught.

He committed suicide on a whim.

Saved us the money of a trial for him.

Two older folks were found.

Dead in their apartment. Neither was bound.

The woman died about 3 weeks ago.

She was sitting up, fully clothed.

The man had been dead about a week.

Naked, lying on the floor near her seat.

Then, a man about 56 years old.

Was found naked, dead, and cold.

He was found kneeling in a freezer.

Weird way to go, even for a geezer.

He had been in there for some time.

I have no idea what was on his mind.

These things all happening in a week.

Is kind of scary, the rest of us think.

It’s another indication of ‘the end of time.’

‘It will wrap up soon’, is on my mind.

God’s presence is slowly being withdrawn.

Satan is running rampant among the fallen.

“REPENT!!, REPENT!!” time is very short.

When the angels make their report.

Make sure your record is washed clean.

By the blood of the lamb, I mean.

Then, no matter what happens next.

You are saved for eternal life, I’ll bet.

There won’t be death or killings then.

A perfect world, like ours should have been.

And a perfect universe without an end.

The E-Mail Routine

      The E-Mail Routine

Waiting for an E-Mail from you.

How long till you shoot one through?

A little antiquated, to be sure.

It is the way things always were.

I could chat with you on Facebook.

I could take a second look.

Check my phone for a text.

See if any calls came in, next.

But, the way it always is.

An E-Mail saying: This one is his.

I fight the ad’s to search for it.

I will search & never quit.

It is ‘old fashioned’ to be sure.

A way not used much, as it were.

Still it is faster than a letter.

Maybe archaic times were better.

It gave you something to look forward to.

Yet, a letter, sent from me to you.

Would take forever to be delivered.

That idea has really withered.

Not to mention the cost of stamps.

it would cost my shirt and pants.

No, an E-Mail is fine for now.

If I only receive one, somehow.

Sometimes they are like a small book.

Other times, read, with one quick look.

No matter how short or how long.

It lets me know I still belong.

Belong on your long list of friends.

Ones you write to without depends.

It doesn’t depend on if I write you first.

You will still write. It’s like a curse.

But, it is a blessing for me.

Because I finally hear from you, you see.

That gives me much pleasure and joy.

Better than getting a brand new toy.

Then I will set right down.

Peck out an answer then turn around.

Send it on its way first.

Before going to quench my thirst.

Next day there I am.

Waiting for an E-Mail again.

So it goes each and every day.

It leaves me little time to play.—R. W. Johnson—–(2015)

A Trip To Within

      A Trip To Within

Once in awhile, if I have the time.

I go down into the mine.

Rather, I should say: Into the mind.

‘Mind tripping’, to say it kind.

An introspective trip to within.

Somewhere I’ve rarely been.

It can be scary when you first go in.

But, soon, I am easily remembering when.

if I have been there, it is a traveled path.

If not, it can make me laugh.

Sneaking around in my own thoughts.

Wondering what the next thought brought?

I come to a door marked THE ID.

Caused me to almost flip my lid.

I recalled the movie “Forbidden Planet.”

Monsters from THE ID, taken for granted.

No, that’s not for me. I turn away from that.

Maybe a look at emotions is where it is at.

It is warm and cozy in here.

Lots of love. very little fear.

I look in the ‘past experiences’ file.

No, I am not in denial.

This is a tough file to review.

Some still hurt. There are a few.

Next, I look at past memories.

A little dusty in here. But, it is friendly.

Needs a little cleaning. Some files are lost.

I need to retrieve some at any cost.

I check current files. All are sharp & fresh.

Nothing here to any excess.

An alarm. What could that mean?

Sound from outside. Sounds like a machine.

I open my eyes and see my wife.

She is running a vacuum. What a life.

Try to have quiet time for self inspection.

But, am disturbed by noise and affection.
