Dog And Butterfly

     Dog And Butterfly

The dog and the butterfly.

A song by Heart was my reply.

But, look again with your inner eye.

See the dog chase the butterfly.

See the dog lie down to rest.

See the butterfly land on his nose in jest.

The dog looks cross-eyed at this sight.

And then the butterfly takes flight.

The dog barks, tail wagging in joy.

The butterfly is more than just a toy.

The dog would never harm the delicate thing.

He wouldn’t even touch it’s pretty wing.

He just enjoys chasing it around.

A better friend would be hard found.

Then I thought of you and I.

I’m like that dog cause you do fly.

You flutter around here and there.

I am chasing you everywhere.

The bond between the dog and butterfly

may be stronger than between you and I.

But, despite it all I enjoy the chase.

I love to look upon your lovely face.

I understand the dog much better now.

I wag my imaginary tail and say bow-wow.

You tell me I am in a world of my own.

I think you may be right as I call on the phone.

I ask you what your up to today.

Then the chase is on it’s way.——————-R. W. Johnson—-(2012)

There To Play A Different Game

There To Play A Different Game

The young man came into the room.

He walked with a confident stride.

It seemed he didn’t come too soon.

The girls stared with eyes open wide.

He made his way to an empty seat.

He was watched the entire way.

He sat down & ordered a drink.

The waitress smiled & left with a sway.

The band started playing an oldie.

A number of people got up to dance.

One girl said “I’m going to see.”

She walked by & looked at his hand.

No ring was noticed on his left ring finger.

He is either single or removed the ring.

There was no lighter than a tan line that lingered.

That means he must be here for a fling.

The band played more songs.

He did not ask anyone to dance.

He sat there for far too long.

The girls were getting ants in their pants.

After an hour & a couple of drinks,

he got up and left the place.

The girls all said “That sure stinks.”

They were wondering if he had what it takes.

For several nights the act was repeated.

Regulars were at a total loss for words.

Finally, one girl asked him what he needed?

He said he was just there to hear his brother play.

Seems his brother was in the band.

It was his first paid session.

He told his brother “Take a stand.”

“I’ll be there to support your lesson.”

The girl just blushed and walked away.

She didn’t know what to say or do.

Seems all good looking men who stay

are not there to make a score too.————R. W. Johnson—–(2014)

Woman Of Mystery

        Woman Of Mystery

Sometimes you can be really nice.

Then again, you can be cold as ice.

You’re driving me crazy.

Take my advice.

Get it together now.

Quit saying you don’t know how.

I love you baby.

Pull it together somehow.

We go out & it’s really great.

I try not to keep you out too late.

Don’t say maybe.

Next time I ask for a date.

I’ve been struggling for a long time.

Are you or are you not mine.

I don’t know how you spend your time.

Sometimes you are hard to find.

I love you baby.

Please don’t be the hurting kind.

I text you with no reply.

I wait.— I really try.

You say you’re sorry.

But, no change as time goes by.

You say you are confused.

Being with me makes you feel soothed.

You never party.

I don’t want to be crud.

What you’re thinking, I don’t know.

You’re the one running the show.

I’m never tardy.

But,  the response is slow.

I’ve been struggling for a long time.

Are you or are you not mine.

I don’t know how you spend your time.

Sometimes you are hard to find.

I love you baby.

Please, don’t be the hurting kind.

It’s a lot I’ve been through.

I hang in there just for you.

I’m losing faith.

Is it something I didn’t do?

My patience is running thin.

I don’t know if I can ever win.

Give up the chase?

The thought brings a grin.

This fiasco has run its course.

It is easier to train a horse.

I’m losing face.

Nothing left but, remorse.——————–R. W. Johnson—–(2013)

More Than A Friend

          More Than A Friend

Hello girl.

I see your back in town again.

When you left

you only called me a good friend.

Tell me girl.

Your several ages older now.

Have you learned,

maybe it was more somehow.

I’ve heard tell

you’ve had several boyfriends since.

Could be now

you understand just what I meant.

When I said

It will all come back to you.

Then you’ll think

maybe I have not been the fool.

We had something that would never end.

A relationship upon which you could depend.

I was there helping your heart to mend.

There for the hard times again and again.

If you only knew, I was so much more than a friend.

Tell me girl

you’ve been burned, or so I have heard.

It hurts girl.

For that I have no helping word.

Could it be

you came home so you could lean on me?

I heard girl

you’ve gone through hell , despite your charms.

Did you miss

the comfort you felt snuggled in my arms?

Can you see

that maybe it was meant to be.

You ran away

when what you wanted was here to stay.

Your faithful friend,

and so much more along the way.

We had something that would never end.

A relationship upon which you could depend.

I was there to help your heart to mend.

There for the hard times again and again.

If you only knew, I was so much more than a friend.

Searching For You

      Searching For You

I’ve gone to war.

I’ve slept with  whores.

I’ve traveled around.

I’ve been up & I’ve been down.

But, the best I ever feel

Is when I’m sitting behind the wheel.

Heading home to be with you.

You’re on my mind  day and night.

I hate it when you’re out of sight.

I like the fact when you’re around.

You don’t mention my leaving town.

Lately, I’ve been thinking of settling down.

That thought is easy when you’re around.

You’ve turned my world upside down

I’ve never felt this way before.

Usually,  it’s just a quick score.

Then,  on my way looking for more.

Now, I linger at your door.

Wishing I could linger more.

Something has a hold on my heart.

This feeling is ripping me apart

I could settle down & change my ways.

No roaming around looking for lays.

Reject this life that moves me on.

The wandering urge would be gone.

To take it’s place there would be you.

I can’t think of what else  I can do.

So, I am heading home to you.

Home to a life I can only dream of.

Where I will shower you with love.

I will raise you upon a pedestal high.

Treat you like an angel from the sky.

You are the apple of my eye.

You’re the one I’ve been searching for.

The search  is over,—- forevermore.——-R. W. Johnson——-(2011)

What The Future Holds?

         What The Future Holds?

Will it be the same when we are old?

Will we still want each other to hold?

Will your touch still give me a tingle?

Or, will we wish that we were single?

Will I still do all to keep you happy?

Will you respond with something sappy?

Will we both still love ‘sweet nothings.’?

Or, will we be fighting and cussing?

Will I take you to your favorite spots?

Will you say, for me, you have the ‘hots’?

Will I still turn you on at night in bed?

Or, will you be sorry we ever wed?

Will you still meet me at the door?

Will you talk of your day & more?

Will we share the same interests?

Or, will we wish for another entrance?

Will we always put each other first?

Will we think our life is a curse?

Will you still love me when I’m 64?

Or, will you throw me out the door?

The answers to these I do not know.

I just know it is worth a go.

The answers may be yes or may be no.

As for me , I’d rather not know.—————-R. W. Johnson—–(2014)

He Hasn’t A Clue

            He Hasn’t A Clue

Tell it to me straight.

No fooling around.

Was the reason you were late,

because you were still in town?

What exactly were you doing?

I hope you weren’t fooling around.

I have a lot of feelings accruing.

It doesn’t help when you can’t be found.

Of course I trust you.

Doesn’t it sound like it?

Yet, I’m not going to be a fool.

So, I hope you intend to right it.

Why are you getting steamed?

I am the one with the hurt feelings.

You say I ought to be reamed.

Such talk sends me reeling.

What kind of a relationship is this?

You mess up and I get the blame?

Knock it off, as he shook his fist.

Such talk is driving me insane.

I can’t see the forest for the trees?

What the hell are you talking about?

You’re about as dependable as a breeze.

You’re the one making me shout.

No, I don’t need Psych help.

You need more help than I do.

You used to make my heart melt.

Now, you take some getting used to.

Jealous?—- No way is that true.

I am not suspicious of all you do.

You can do whatever you want to.

You know it is totally up to you.

Fine, leave. See if I care.

Just like you to walk out rather than listen.

Why are you ripping out your hair?

You know I’m the only one worth kissing.

Lets kiss & make up. I’ll see you tomorrow.

Things will be better then.

Sleep on it and there will be no sorrow.

Sometimes, I just don’t understand women.

Negativity Will Not Stay

          Negativity Will Not Stay

There’s a light on in your house today.

But, you’re not there. You’ve gone away.

I wanted so for you to stay—– to stay.

You seemed so distant and far away.

I couldn’t give you a reason to stay.

The little things, they mean alot.

They give hope where there is not.

But, negative things hang on & rot.

Though one of us may have forgot.

I’m sorry to say—- that I forgot.

Communication opens up the door.

It allows us to get to the very core.

Then neither needs to feel sore.

Before it turns negative some more.

Not discussing it is what I abhor.

Friends ask me where you’ve gone?

They never ask why it took so long.

They  don’t know what went wrong.

They know I’m singing a different song.

Ever since they know you’ve been gone.

Where is it that you needed to go?

Just away from me is all I know.

It could have been a different show.

We needed to take it really slow.

Then, at least, we both would know.

I’m cashing in on promises of yours.

Driving by is one of my daily chores.

I’ve found mine. Have you found yours?

If you have you’ll be home, of course.

Then we’ll become a mighty force.

The two of us will become as one.

Sharing our love under the sun.

Blending together like coke and rum.

No more negatives will ever come.

We will both know: You are the one.———R. W. Johnson—–(2014)

Timothy’s World

                    Timothy’s World

TIMOTHY, OH TIMOTHY.

YOU WERE ALL THE WORLD TO ME.

I GAVE MY HEART AND SOUL TO THEE.

I WAS YOUR’S FOR ETERNITY.

ALL OUR CASTLES IN THE SKY

HAVE NOW ALL CRUMBLED INTO LIES.

REMEMBER WHEN YOU FLEW ME THERE?

WIND WAS WHISTLING THROUGH OUR HAIR.

WE DANCED TOGETHER IN FAIRY DUST.

THEN SAILED OFF, JUST THE TWO OF US.

WE SLID DOWN A MOONBEAM BRIGHT,

ACROSS A CLEAR AND STARY NIGHT.

OH TIMOTHY, MY TIMOTHY.

TELL ME WHY WOU’VE GONE FROM ME.

WITHOUT YOU DEAR, I CANNOT FLY.

THERE’S NOTHING LEFT EXCEPT TO CRY.

CRY ALONE IN MISERY.

OH TIMOTHY, MY TIMOTHY.

REMEMBER WHEN OUR MINDS WERE ONE?

THE MENTAL GAMES WE’D PLAY FOR FUN.

YOU’D CHASE ME THROUGH MY MEMORIES PAST.

THERE WERE NO WALLS TO BLOCK OUR PATH.

THEN, I’D CHASE YOU AND CATCH YOU DEAR.

YOU WEREN’T AFRAID. THERE WAS NO FEAR.

I CAME TO YOU IN NUDITY.

WE BONDED THEN, JUST YOU AND ME.

OUR MINDS AND BODIES BECAME AS ONE.

WE FLEW INTO A BLINDING SUN.

WE SAILED OFF TO ETERNITY.

FOREVER YOURS I’D ALWAYS BE.

OH TIMOTHY, MY TIMOTHY.

TELL ME WHY WOU’VE GONE FROM ME?

WITHOUT YOU DEAR, I CANNOT FLY.

THERE’S NOTHING LEFT EXCEPT TO CRY.

CRY ALONE IN MISERY.

OH TIMOTHY—- MY TIMOTHY.——-R. W. JOHNSON——-(1998)

Between The Lines

I sat down to write my girl a letter.

I had to get to know her better.

Sweet nothings & commitment so sublime.

The real message was between the lines.

Just a simple love poem at first glance.

I was afraid to take a chance.

I felt safer between the lines .

If I want to tell her what’s on my mind.

As the poem flowed along,

I felt like I was writing a song.

I let her know that she was mine.

But, the real message was between the lines.

beautiful-images-of-nature-with-quotes-2

Between the lines.

Between the lines.

I felt safer between the lines.

For her to know what was on my mind.

She would have to read between the lines.

I wrote it smooth with little to lose.

A simple love poem from me to you.

Hidden there between every line.

Was the devotion I knew was mine.

I mentioned things we have done.

The games we played that you usually won.

How being with you was really fine.

But, if you could only see between the lines.

Now that I was nearly done.

I decided it was a lot of fun.

Then another thought crossed my mind.

What if you can read between the lines?

Between the lines.

Between the lines.

I felt safer between the lines.

For her to know what was on my mind.

She would have to read between the lines. ———-R. W. Johnson—–(2014)
