Night rolls in.

Gone is the wind.

Fireflies dancing in our eyes.

A night bird singing as he flies.

Our thoughts turn to long ago.

A footprint lost in the snow.

Where we went in the winter.

The cabin where you got the splinter.

The time we had snuggling together.

We didn’t worry about the weather.

Snowed in for at least a week.

We had enough food to eat.

The seeds that we did sow.

We are still watching them grow.

The flickering firelight.

As we sat snuggled together tight.

The world in all its marvelous ways

has not erased those seven days.

The night rolls in.

Gone is the wind.

Fireflies  dancing in our eyes.

Being together has been our lives.

Neither of us has any regrets.

Were still together, we’ve passed the test.

Really Getting To Know You

        Really Getting To Know You

We’ve been together now for almost a year.

It flies by fast when I’m with you.

I have more fun when I know your near.

I really enjoy whatever we do.

I don’t really know how I feel about you.

Your quiet most of the time.

You never talk about me and you.

You just don’t say what’s on your mind.

I know you care enough to put me first.

You’ve had your problems in the past.

For you to talk about it really hurts.

You have a pain that seems to last.

So, it’s you, then it’s me.

On & on it seems to be.

There is little left for us to see.

Do you want to move on with me?

We are stuck in one place, it seems.

Beyond this I can only dream.

I often wondered if you’ve thought of me?

Of what I’ve gone through in my past.

You never mention anything, you see.

We have to go there to make this last.

I don’t know how to approach this issue.

I don’t want to cause a scene.

If we go there one of us will need a tissue.

If I go there, don’t think I am mean.

I want to know how I feel about you.

You have to open up to me.

Communication is a precious tool.

it’s the way to set us free.

So, it’s you, then it’s me.

On & on it seems to be.

There is little left for us to see.

Do you want to move on with me?

We are stuck in one place, it seems.

Beyond this, I can only dream.—————–R. W. Johnson—–(2014)

The Drought

                      The Drought

The sun is going down across this blistered land.

Little is left alive except a few trees, lizards, & man.

A lone guitar is heard in the fading light.

Man won’t give up the land without a fight.

Summer is over.

The city swelters in the welcomed dusk.

Florescent lights shine through the dust.

A soldier in a bar dreams of a love affair.

While children & mothers swat bugs in the air.

Summer is over.

It’s a never ending show.

Traffic moves by very slow.

Afraid to stir the dusty air.

Flowers lie dead everywhere.

In this cursed, drought dried land

stands a sunburned, lonely man.

His heart is aching for the one he lost.

This is what the drought has cost.

Everything dies from lack of water.

Thanks to man & his foolish fodder.

A small ray of hope burns in the air around all.

Summer is over. —-Will this end it all?

A few more weeks till cooling autumn comes.

Then, maybe, blessed rain for everyone.

Summer is over.

This cannot go on like this for another year.

Man will die without rain. There will be no beer.

There will be no crops to keep man alive.

Animals will die. Bees will mummify in their hive.

Thanks to man & his foolish fodder.———-R. W. Johnson—–(2014)

Loving Just One

              Loving Just One

To love someone, you should stay with that one.

Playing the field is a lot of fun.

But, it doesn’t work if you love someone.

If you really love someone.

A roaming mind is the devil’s playhouse.

That’s how to give a hot romance a douse.

just go sneaking around quiet as a mouse.

You will soon be known as a louse.

Be with one.

Let her know.

You intend

to take it slow.

You want this

romance to last.

Not like what’s

happened in the past.

Get close and intimate with her.

Let her know it’s her for sure.

Put her first no matter what.

Cherish her like a golden cup.

Spend time with her.

Make time to just be with her.

Include her in most of your life.

Make her the center of your life.

be with one.

Let her know.

You intend

to take it slow.

You want this

romance to last.

Not like what’s

happened in the past.

Time with her will be your reward.

Put this time of life on record.

Play it over & over in your mind.

Simply think about her all the time.

You may find a deeper trust.

A confidence that is not lust.

It is  a real love of the soul.

With someone who won’t let go.————–R. W. Johnson—–(2014)

Communicate With Your Mate

Communicate With Your Mate

Every day I raise

hoping to see your eyes.

Hoping just once more,

you will finally realize.

I didn’t want you to leave.

I didn’t want you to

think I tried to deceive.

All I’ve done since is cry.

I want to see your eyes.

We had been so close.

Much closer than most.

I thought that you would see

when I took that trip to the coast,

I wasn’t with someone else.

it was only business that day.

If I only knew how you felt.

I would have held you so close.

It was business, not for boast.

I should have let you know.

Why I was going to go.

Why I didn’t ask you to go too.

It was something I had to do.

I wasn’t thinking at all.

I should have never made that call.

It was something not involving us.

Yet, I made it hard for you to trust.

Every day I raise

hoping to see your eyes.

Hoping just once more,

you will finally realize.

I didn’t want you to leave.

I didn’t want you to

think I tried to deceive.

All I’ve done since is cry.

I want to see your eyes.————————-R. W. Johnson—–(2014)

A Documentary On My Life

           A Documentary On My Life

I sat down to watch a documentary on my life.

There I am thinking people aren’t worth the pain & strife.

Then I see you walking in.

You stand quietly as you take it all in.

What was that running down your cheek?

Was it a tear? Did you spring a leak?

Why in the world would you cry for me?

There is something more here than I can see.

As the documentary rolls along.

We come to the part where  I am gone.

I should have been there for support.

Instead I was making an appearance in court.

There I am without a job.

“This world is cruel” I hear myself sob.

later on I’m all alone.

I cry and sigh. Then I moan.

Finally someone comes along.

This is it. Am I right or am I wrong?

I am feeling like a solitary man.

Like the Neil Diamond song can.

Again I’m on the road alone.

Then I notice how you’ve grown.

It seems you have been there most of my life.

Not my focus, just there for support through the strife.

Now I see what I missed before.

It is you I’ve been looking for.

TO BE CONTINUED appears on the screen.

I have a feeling the ending will be keen.

Missing You

         Missing You

Many days have gone by.

I haven’t heard from you.

I haven’t told a lie.

What are you putting me through?

Give me a clue.

Drop me a line.

Send an E-Mail too.

Just take the time.

I’m not into this .

I am not with your vibes.

I miss your goodnight kiss.

I don’t like being taken for a ride.

I think back.

All was very good.

Was I blind ? I have eyes like a cat.

You always responded like you should.

There was no problems that I could see.

We were closer than Mork & Mindy.

It seemed that this is how it should be.

I say “Nanu, nanu to it all, Cindy.”

Could it be you’ve found another?

Could it be you are no longer alive?

I loved you more than I have any other.

You could come over. You know how to drive.

I will attempt to contact you.

I will use all the means I know.

No response means we are through.

Then I’ll know where I should go.————-R. W. Johnson—–(2014)

This One Goes Out To The One I Love

This One Goes Out To The One I Love

I am on the  radio doing a live show.

Playing a few songs that I know.

This one goes out to the one I love.

A special song that speaks of my love.

I don’t know what happened to us?

Once we were happy. There was no fuss.

Then, we were agreeing to be apart.

That never came from within my heart.

You went your way & I went mine.

That was when everything stopped in time.

I have been frozen in every way.

Always thinking back to that terrible day.

I have never felt so bad in my life.

Living without you has brought daily strife.

I don’t understand what went wrong?

Better communication I should call this song.

This one goes out to the one I love.

A special song that speaks of my love.

I want you back more than each breath.

If you can hear me, don’t give up yet.

let’s start new. Enjoy that newness of love.

My hand in yours will fit like a glove.

With you by my side I am complete.

I want to sweep you off of your feet.

Together all our dreams can come true.

I want to be the only one for you.

I know your likes and dislikes.

We can be one without any fights.

This goes out to the one I love.

Coming to you like love from above.

Take it to heart and come back to me.

You will never be sorry. You will see.——–R. W. Johnson—–(2014)

What Goes Around Comes Around

What Goes Around Comes Around

To the ones you left behind.

Were we not worth your time?

We never heard you say goodbye.

We never got a reason why.

Here’s to you who couldn’t see.

What it was you did to me.

Now you’ve thrown it all away.

Now there’s nothing left to say.

I am living in the shadow, love.

The shadow of your tragic love.

The darkness you’ve left me with.

Along with others that are miffed.

Players only love you when they’re playing.

The lives you ruin is wrong, I am saying.

Revenge is mine along with the others.

The day is coming when we’ll have our druthers.

Did you think you could go on forever?

Destroying others lives like they never

existed, except for your personal pleasure.

That will change. I am no mystic sayer.

But, I know when I speak the truth.

You have been doomed from your youth.

Your past conquests will raise up.

That will be the end of your luck.

Love will have a different meaning after that.

You will change your ways and that’s a fact.

You will be loving, kind, considerate, & more.

You will show no one to the door.

Your days as a player will be over.

You’ll spend your time lying in clover.

With the one you truly adore.

Praying she won’t think you’re a bore.

Always, you will be in fear.

She will dump you like dumping a beer.

She will walk away & rip your heart out.

You’ll remember that is what life was about.

And Life Goes On

             And Life Goes On

To the man who lost his mind.

Left his home for the last time.

They found him in the wintertime.

Looking for something he couldn’t find.

They shipped him way out West.

The distance put their minds at rest.

Napa State Hospital did their best.

Such a warm and cozy nest.

Back home they threw the key away.

For them, there was nothing left to say.

Thing is, he did get better one day.

Then he went back home to stay.

Then, there was the girl next door.

The one that he was searching for.

He loved her to his very core.

He wanted to get to know her more.

But, when he tries she starts to cry.

She locks the door & hopes to die.

Makes him wonder if he should even try.

Finally, he gives up with just a sigh.

His reputation follows him.

“He is nuts”, he hears again & again.

Everyone’s fear comes from within.

They worry he may flip out again.

There is no life here for him anymore.

He has to forget about the girl next door.

His life is becoming such a bore.

He just can’t take it anymore.

There he sits in a café in a new town.

There is no one else around.

He thinks back; his face makes a frown.

I guess there is no where he is bound.

A girl comes in &  takes a close seat.

She looks lonely and really beat.

They talk & she asks “Will you go with me?”

He says “Anywhere is a better place to be.”
