Music From The Heart

      Music From The Heart

I play my guitar while you are sleeping.

I look down and see you smile.

I know in my heart, you are worth keeping.

I am happy you’re around for awhile.

I create a song to reflect my feelings.

It reaches deep within my soul.

I never want to hear that you are leaving.

To be yours forever, is my goal.

My guitar and I have seen a lot.

It is with me all the time.

I express my feelings on the spot.

By these rhythms & chords of mine.

You have brought the best out in me.

My heart is singing to you. Can’t you see?

Later, when I finally come to bed.

You roll over toward me.

You warm my shoulder with your head.

This is where I want you to be.

Close enough to feel you near.

To know that you are alive & vibrant.

The warmth of your body, showing no fear.

Your eyes open and you see my grin.

You ask what is wrong?

I say things couldn’t be better.

I tell her I love her in a song.

She smiles as her eyes get wetter.

My guitar and I have seen a lot.

It is with me all the time.

I express my feelings on the spot.

By these rhythms & chords of mine.

You have brought the best out in me.

My heart is singing to you. Can’t you see?

Her house is down on Cherry Drive.

And there’s a tree in her backyard.

A limb rubs against the outside.

When the wind is blowing hard.

We are safe and warm within.

Snuggled in our little love nest.

I have a feeling, it’s about to begin.

Because I know that she’s the best.

Dreams Can Come True

      Dreams Can Come True

I’ve been told my time will come.

I will find my one and only one.

Just keep on keeping on.

Life will bring him into my song.

Life goes on, as usual, around here.

I am not searching. Let’s make that clear.

I am just living day to day.

Hoping someone will come my way.

I go to work. I come home.

I spend time all alone.

I go out with several friends.

We have fun till the night ends.

Then, it’s ‘dream lover’ time.

I go to bed with this in mind.

My dreams are vivid, this is true.

Yet, it is lonely without you.

When will you come into my life?

I hope it is soon. Let’s make it right.

Another day has come and gone.

I wonder if I am doing something wrong?

I haven’t even met a new person.

Much less, one who would make it worsen

Then, one day, to my surprise.

I bumped into this good looking guy.

It was in the cafeteria at lunch.

He apologized a bunch

We started talking then ate together.

First, we were talking about the weather.

Later, I found out he worked there to.

He said “I’m just one floor below you.”

The next day we ate together again.

Before I knew it, I was going out with him.

Then, I realized—–we had a fit.

We were living together before I knew it.

Then, it’s ‘dream lover’ time.

I go to bed with this in mind.

My dreams are vivid, this is true.

Yet, it is lonely without you.

When will you come into my life?

I hope it’s soon. Let’s make it right.

What everyone said seemed to be true.

Be yourself and someone will find you.

I never thought my ‘dream lover’ would come true.

But, here I am.—– Living with you.

Picking Pine Nuts From The Cone

Picking Pine Nuts From The Cone

Life wasn’t what it seems.

She only came to me in dreams.

I wanted her with me & much more.

She could help me with my chores.

Picking pine nuts from the cone.

Picking pine nuts from the cone.

It’s much more than it’s been shown.

Picking pine nuts from the cone.

I saw her walking down the street.

She was tall and oh so sweet.

I didn’t even know her name.

Yet, I tried to play the game.

Picking pine nuts from the cone.

Picking pine nuts from the cone.

It’s much more than it’s been shown.

Picking pine nuts from the cone.

I said ‘Hi, remember me from?”

She looked at me like I was dumb.

I said “I can’t remember your name?”

“Don’t look at me. I’m not the blame”

“I think we got off on the wrong foot.”

‘What is it your getting off your gut?”

“I wanted to get to know you.”

“You could help me do what I do.”

“Picking pine nuts from the cone.”

“Picking pine nuts from the cone.”

“It’s much more than it’s been shown.”

“Picking pine nuts from the cone.”

“You’re a nut. Get away from me.”

“I would never want to see

me picking pine nuts from  the cone.”

“So, go ahead, and run on home.”

Picking pine nuts from the cone.

Picking pine nuts from the cone.

It’s much more than it’s been shown.

Picking pine nuts from the cone.

You Didn’t Do A Thing

      You Didn’t Do A Thing

You could have hugged me.

Like she hugs me.

You could have kissed me.

Like she kisses me.

But, you didn’t—-do a thing.

You just stood there, looking at the ring.

She is everything I wanted you to be.

Now, I will miss you,—– for eternity.

You could have said you wanted me.

Like she says she wants me.

You could have loved me.

Like she loves me.

But, you didn’t—-do a thing.

You just stood there, looking at the ring.

She is everything I wanted you to be.

Now, I will miss you,—- for eternity.

You could have clung to me.

Like she clings to me.

You could have never let me go.

Like she will never let me go.

But, you didn’t—-say a thing.

You just turned, and left the ring.

She is everything I wanted you to be.

Now, I am without you,—- for eternity.

The Pain Lasts So Long

      The Pain Lasts So long

The sun was bright. It was time to rise.

Something grimy was in my eyes.

I staggered to the bathroom & washed my face.

I started looking all around the place.

What a mess. I’ve been depressed.

Feeling to poor to clean it up, I guess.

I brushed my teeth and combed my hair.

I put on clean clothes. But, still didn’t care.

The pain lasts so long, since you’ve been gone.

Along the way, I’ve lost my song.

Nothing seems to have any meaning.

I just drift along without any feeling.

I made some breakfast, but didn’t sit down.

I just wasn’t hungry, without you around.

I got my coat and headed for the door.

I had nowhere to go that wasn’t a bore.

I walked along and turned into a park.

Last time I was there was after dark.

Couples were walking and holding hands.

Chatting together and making plans.

The pain lasts so long, since you’ve been gone.

Along the way, I’ve lost my song.

Nothing seems to have any meaning.

I just drift along without any feeling.

It all reminded me of better times.

I leave the park and try to unwind.

Up ahead I see a movie marquee.

I go in to see what there is to see.

It was a romance. A happy ending .

It left me tearful, uncomprehending.

It did not end up happy for me.

I was as depressed as I could be.

The pain lasts so long, since you’ve been gone.

Along the way, I’ve lost my song.

Nothing seems to have any meaning.

I just drift along without any feeling.

Up the street, I bumped into some friends.

How was I doing?——- So it begins.

They knew I was no longer with you.

They were just trying to be supportive too.

But, it only made me feel worse.

I couldn’t tell them that. What a curse.

Finally, they let me go on my way.

They all wished me a better day.

The pain lasts so long, since you’ve been gone.

Along the way, I’ve lost my song.

Nothing seems to have any meaning.

I just drift along without any feeling.

Back home again, I feel half dead.

Instead of watching TV, I crawl into bed.

I say a prayer, especially for you.

I just don’t know what else to do.

I get up and brush my teeth.

I kind of stagger. feeling a little weak.

I hop back in bed and turn out the light.

Again, tomorrow, I’ll take up the fight.

The pain lasts so long, since you’ve been gone.

Along the way, I’ve lost my song.

Nothing seems to have any meaning.

I just drift along without any feeling.

Old Before Your Time

      Old Before Your Time

Girl, you’re gone again.

You are out of town.

You are not with men.

But, you aren’t slowing down.

You are busy all the time.

Always up to something new.

If a little of that time was mine.

I could be happy too.

Our dates are few, at best.

You have to fit me in.

I don’t even have to guess.

It’s up to you. I can’t win.

I always wish that you were mine.

That all you did was with me.

I have only one fear on my mind.

it is something that just could be.

That you’ll grow old before your time.

Then, it will be too late for me.

You are booked up for two weeks.

Beyond that, you are not sure.

You always have these promises to keep.

Time goes by so fast, it’s just a blur.

You say you want to make the time.

But, obligations get in the way.

Maybe, sometime, the time, you will find.

You will have to find another way.

If not, I may decide for you.

I have free time on my hands.

‘The Devil’s Workshop’ hype may be true.

I’ll find another with whom I can make plans.

I always wish that you were mine.

That all you did was with me.

I have only one fear on my mind.

it is something that just could be.

That you’ll grow old before your time.

Then, it will be too late for me.—R. W. Johnson—–(2015)

She Said “Yes!!”

       She Said Yes!!

The coffee is sweet.

It is such a treat.

On this dreary Sunday morning.

I check the time.

Everything is fine.

On this dreary Sunday morning.

You should arrive.

It’s no surprise.

On this dreary Sunday morning.

You come here nearly every day.

To have coffee & be on your way.

I am hoping this time you’ll stay.

I have something I want to say.

Will you accept this ring today?

If you won’t—- I’ll go away.

I’ll find some other game to play.

You arrive on time.

Everything is fine.

On this dreary Sunday morning.

You are surprised.

It’s in your eyes.

On this dreary Sunday morning.

You see the ring.

It is a special thing.

You say “Yes!!” My heart sings.

On this bright and happy Sunday morning.

Fear Intensified

      Fear Intensified

Late at night.

When the stars are bright.

People get a fright.

By what’s not there.

They may think .

it’s hidden in the drink.

They may raise a stink.

Or, may not care.

But, never look for lumps in the brew.

That were not always there.

It is known, beyond a doubt.

The truth is more than you can bare.

So, when it’s spinning round, round.

Smoke glass stain going down, down.

Do not think I am the one.

In the end, the ups and downs,

will lead to a different fun.

In the room.

That is filled with gloom.

There is no room.

To throw a chair.

You may fear.

It was the beer.

Let’s make it clear.

There’s something there.

Make it through.

He’s coming for you.

Don’t slip in goo.

You have to try.

Your time has come.

You’re on the run.

No time for fun.

No time to cry.——–R. W. Johnson—–(2015)

Hooked By Love

Hooked By Love

It’s  another affair of the heart.

The kind that often happens.

The emotions can tear you apart.

Is it a result of your actions?

It started innocent enough.

You were along for the ride.

Then, things got a little tough.

You could have run,— or lied.

Yet,—- you didn’t leave.

You stayed on for a reason.

What is it you want to achieve?

Is it coming in due season?

You must go a lot deeper this time.

Emotions run deep in the well of love.

To understand the reasons & rhyme,

you need to nurture the wild wind dove.

You need to seek true redemption.

Before you even try to mention

your true feelings concerning her.

The relationship develops.

Like they always do.

Soon, all will be enveloped.

Covering all you say & do.

Your total life revolves around her.

You don’t want it any other way.

You are hooked this time for sure.

You want it to work out, you pray.

You have tried your best to understand.

You try to enlighten every emotion.

You try your best to cope, like a man.

You just pray she has the same notion.

You must go a lot deeper this time.

Emotions run deep in the well of love.

To understand the reasons & rhyme,

you need to nurture the wild wind dove.

You need to seek true redemption.

Before you can even try to mention

your true feelings concerning her.—R. W. Johnson—–(2015)

Love In Vain

      Love In Vain

The table is set & dinner is ready.

The kids are staying with friends.

They are spending the night at Eddie’s.

I can’t wait for this evening to begin.

I patiently wait, but you don’t show.

This is our chance to make amends.

Another chance to make it a go.

To, finally be real,—- no pretends.

The dinner is being kept warm.

It is getting later by the hour.

My heart is slowly being torn.

It is wilting—- like a flower.

Must this night be ruined before it begins.

Like so many others before this.

This was going to be our time to make amends.

Instead, our relationship is sinking, like a ship.

I don’t want it to end this way.

I didn’t want it to end at all.

But, if you’ve found someone else for play.

I see the handwriting on the wall.

It looks like another night for my tears to fall.

It’s way too late. I put the dinner away.

I couldn’t eat.—- My heart wasn’t it.

I lie in bed, but I am wide awake.

My good mood is gone. I feel like s—t.

Finally, I hear you come in.

You slowly come up the stairs.

You smell of cigarettes and gin.

Tell your excuses to someone who cares.

I turn over and don’t say a thing.

You get undressed & slip into bed.

Soon, I hear your snores as they ring.

Then, the tears start falling from my head.

Must this night be ruined before it begins.

Like so many others before this.

This was going to be our time to make amends.

Instead, our relationship is sinking, like a ship.

I don’t want it to end this way.

I don’t want it to end at all.

But, if you’ve found someone else for play.

I see the handwriting on the wall.

It looks like another night my tears will fall.
