Born Again

      Born Again

It comes back to me once more.

That horrible night I will never forget.

I went running for the door.

From the worst sight I’ve seen yet.

I have lived on the edge of twilight.

Staying in the shadows and the dark.

Sometimes I run with all my might.

Like sinners chasing after the ark.

I don’t have any close friends.

I walk on the dark side of the road.

Fear and paranoia never ends.

I feel my heart has grown cold.

Late one night I was passing a church.

The door was open and a voice came out.

I immediately stopped with a lurch.

He was praying and crying out.

“Lord, protect me from the demons “

“They are trying to kill me.”

He must be praying for me then.

That is what has happened to me.

I went to the door and dared to peek in.

It was one man asking for forgiveness.

He looked up and saw my sin.

I looked drawn and listless.

”Friend, you look as if you could use some prayer.”

“Come join me here on my knees.”

Next thing I knew I was kneeling there.

He started praying saying “Please Lord, please.”

“Lord, I know your judgment is fair.”

“Open up this man’s eyes so he can see.”

“Lead him to repent. I know You care.”

His prayer for forgiveness was meant for me.

Soon, I was asking forgiveness for my sins.

I told Him all. Nothing left to say.

I arose feeling free of my sins.

A great peace came my way.

The first time, after many years,

I found the Lord & he loved me.

Soon I was a fountain of tears.

I had found salvation , you see.

My life was different after that.

I could walk in the sun with my head up.

I was a Son of God. Imagine that.

I was finally out of that rut.

From that day on I praised the Lord.

He gave me a new heart and life.

He never lets me get bored.

He gave me life and a loving wife.

World Gone Wrong

      World Gone Wrong

Can we perceiver in such trying times.

People coming on with such lines

as “I am here to save your heart.”

Coronary doctors doing their part..

Other con men take up the slack.

I’ll be glad when hero’s are back.

I know there’s something more

than what were living for.

I think we’re all afraid

How can we be so blind?

The answer’s all around.

No one wants left behind

Someone’s coming to our aide.

Then we’ll all be homeward bound.

We are pulled this way and that.

We don’t have energy to fight back.

The wheels have fallen off the world.

We’ve been spun and we’ve been twirled.

Our whole world’s turned upside down.

Up or down can no longer be found

I know there’s something more

than what we’re living for.

I think we’re all afraid.

How can we be so blind?

The answer’s all around.

No one wants left behind.

Someone’s coming to our aide.

Then we’ll all be homeward bound.

To cut through the confusion, pray.

Study the Bible until you can say.

I see it now. It all makes sense.

God, forgive me.— I repent.

I repute all sin & accept you as Lord.

Save me from this crazy hoard.

I know there’s something more

than what we’re living for.

I think we’re afraid.

How can we be so blind?

The answer’s all around.

No one wants left behind.

Someone’s coming to out aide.

Then we’ll all be homeward bound.———–R. W. Johnson—–(2011)

Space Rock – Or More?

      Space Rock – Or More?

Spiraling through space.

Round and round.

A freezing cold hunk of rock.

Silence all around.

Ever onward through the void.

It’s destination unknown.

There was nothing to avoid.

It traveled on alone.

Time was non-existent here.

Every revolution the same.

Could life exist in such a state?

Survive and not go insane?

Yet,—- alive it was.

Not as we would know life.

Something different altogether.

Still something that had the right

to be called a sentient being.

A living ship might be close

To describe this hunk of rock.

Could it be carrying ghosts

onward to their destiny?

If there was life within,

there was no indication.

Just a hunk of rock in space

was all. No communication.

A time will someday come

when it will reach a destination.

Then, the answer will reveal

it’s final consecration.———————-R. W. Johnson—-(2011)

The Home Coming

      The Home Coming

She was a girl living on her own in the city.

I saw her as a flower blooming very pretty.

I made an effort to get to know her.

Before long I grew much bolder.

I asked her out and love grew from there.

Then word came which we could hardly bare

I had to leave for an indefinite time.

We cried. I said everything would be fine.

I’d send money. She could move away.

She wanted into a country home to stay.

Eventually, this dream came true for her.

She bought a home. A cozy one, for sure.

She continued to wait with much concern.

The time was near for my return.

Early in the morning.

Just about the time the day is dawning.

When all the birds of song are singing.

I’ll be coming home to you.

Look out across the frosty meadow.

The sun will be turning yellow.

All the trees will be saying hello.

I’ll be coming home to you.

She was a country girl at heart.

She loved to sit before the hearth.

Feel the warmth coming from the fire.

As she dreamed of her desire.

She was faithful as she waited patiently.

Knowing I would be coming home to see

our new home where we would be together.

Our love will grow, no matter the weather.

She knew I didn’t want to leave.

It was impossible to even conceive

of being apart for such a lengthy time.

It was so hard it was almost a crime.

But, it all would be over soon.

All the waiting would heal like a wound.

Early in the morning.

Just about the time the day is dawning.

When all the birds of song are singing.

I’ll be coming home to you.

Look out across the frosty meadow.

The sun will be turning yellow.

All the trees will be saying hello.

I’ll be coming home to you.———————R. W. Johnson—–(2011)

Dog Does Good

      Dog Does Good

We were going for a short walk.

We looked up when we heard some talk.

A gang of kids were in the street.

Before we could redirect our feet,

two kids to the side started fighting.

As I watched, two kids were gliding.

They tiptoed by quiet as a mouse.

Then they went into our house.

They were trying to steal our TV.

When our dog came out to see.

He was in the other room.

He growled and jumped the first buffoon.

The other kid was setting down the TV.

While he was saying— “Nice doggie.”

Then he turned and ran real fast.

With the dog nipping at his ass.

He tried to jump the picket fence.

Caught his toe and down he went.

Landed flat upon his face.

Hit so hard he shook the place.

He ran, dripping blood from his mouth.

We went back into the house.

We looked for the other thief.

But, he was pretty fast on his feet.

Out the back door he had run.

The entire day was not much fun.

This neighborhood had gotten bad.

We decided to move, and I was glad.

We moved to a gated community.

They had neighborhood watch, you see.

So we felt much safer and happy there.

Better than we had felt anywhere.

Our big black lab was happy too.

He was happy to be away from that zoo.

No more kids yelling an being brats.

Always whenever he took his naps.

The moral of the story in the end

is that our dog is our best friend.————-R.W. Johnson—–  (2011)

High Flyer

      High Flyer

You shot me down & I fell from the light.

You thought I would fall from sight.

Gone—living in misery

without you near me.

But, I have risen , like the bird of flight,

the Phoenix. I have risen to a new height.

I am soaring among the clouds.

As high as a kite can fly.

My heart is crying out loud.

I can fly. I can fly. I can fly.

Since I met her I am high.

As high as a kit can fly.

I can fly. I can fly. I can fly.

She has your charms, but, not your gile.

She always greets me with a smile.

Be it lengthy or for only awhile.

For time with her, I’d walk a mile.

She has the charms of spring in bloom.

Her lovely eyes just make me swoon.

I am soaring among the clouds.

As high as a kite can fly.

My heart is crying out loud.

I can fly. I can fly. I can fly.

Since I met her I am high.

As high as a kite can fly.

I can fly. I can fly. I can fly.

Like a night bird in its flight.

She showed me how to fly at night.

She taught me how to fly in the day.

To her, it’s all a game to play.

But, she is serious when it comes to love.

That’s why I can soar high above.

I am soaring among the clouds.

As high as a kite can fly.

My heart is crying out loud.

I can fly. I can fly. I can fly.

Since I met her I am high.

As high as a kite can fly.

I can fly. I can fly. I can fly.———————R. W. Johnson—–(2012)

The Way

      The Way

All I ever wanted was to hang around.

I get bored going from town to town.

I’ll just try to make some friends.

If I stay at all, it just depends.

I gotta find somebody that understands.

Someone who will listen to my plans.

I’ve been called kind of wild.

Crazy ideas that come from a child.

All my plans and schemes are simple.

People, come together in love.

Love one another like kin folk.

Love can lead to world peace.

It is the greatest gift received.

If you love and never cease.

Your heart will swell tenfold.

Everywhere I go I spread this news.

All I get in return is taunts and boos.

Does no one believe in love today?

Other than the backseat, front page way?

I mean agape love. That comes from above.

It is the only kind of real love.

If I had a friend to spread the Word.

Soon, it would be all that would be heard.

All my plans and schemes are simple.

People, come together in love.

Love one another like kin folk.

Love can lead to world peace.

It is the greatest gift received.

If you love and never cease.

Your heart will swell tenfold.

Then I realized I have a friend.

One who is with me till the end.

He will help me spread the Word.

Soon, all will have seen and heard.

For my friend will talk thru me.

It will be quite a sight to see.

Hundreds converted in a day.

Praise the Lord, I’ve found The Way.———-R. W. Johnson—-(2012)

Angelic Visions

      Angelic Visions

Going down to the town.

Going just to look around.

A lot that’s old. Nothing new.

That’s till I got a look at you.

My heart pounded real fast.

My foot slipped off the gas.

I almost ran off the road.

My brain was twitching like a toad.

I pulled over to catch my breath.

You were the one. My mind was set.

I began to make great plans.

I would make you mine, if I can.

How to start, I wasn’t sure.

All I knew is you were the cure

for a heart doing cartwheels.

Only a lover knows how it feels.

I looked up and you were gone.

Where did you go? I can’t go on.

You must be close. I’ll look around.

Try as I might, you couldn’t be found.

Were you an angel that I saw?

Or my imagination having a ball?

I doubted then that you were real.

I had to stay on an even keel.

I had a drink & headed for home.

Guess I will remain all alone.——————-R. W. Johnson—–(2012)

Tell Me Why?

      Tell Me Why?

Sometimes you can be so sweet.

Then you can be just so discreet.

Tell me why?

You tell me “Let’s go see a show.”

Then you say that you have to go.

Tell me why?

Tell me why?

Tell me why I must cry?

Every time you go.

Tell me why?

Tell me why I must cry?

I have to know.

Often, you tell me that I’m your man.

Then, when I call, you have other plans.

Tell me why?

You say you love having me around.

Next you’re nowhere to be found.

Tell me why?

Tell me why?

Tell me why I must cry?

Every time you go.

Tell me why?

Tell me why I must cry?

I have to know.

You say to take you at your word.

You tell me not to be so absurd.

I want to know.

Then you’re lovingly sweet.

You sweep me off my feet.

I want to know.

Tell me why?

Tell me why I must cry?

Every time you go.

Tell me why?

Tell me why I must cry?

I have to know.

Tell me true. Is there another man?

Why won’t you tell me, if you can?

I need to know.

You say to trust you. It’s for the best.

Why can’t you tell me? Why must I guess?

I need to know.

Tell me why?

Tell me why I must cry?

Every time you go.

Tell me why?

Tell me why I must cry?

I have to know.

Tell me why?—Tell me, tell me, tell me why??

Happiness Found

      Happiness Found

I came into town with a back pack on my shoulders

and a pocket full of stories that I just had to tell.

You know I’ve knocked  around a bit

and had my share of small town glories.

It’s time to hit the city

and that crazy carousel.

I’ve been thinking now for so long.

I’m tired of  going nowhere but,

I just keep moving on.

Till you brought your Sunday morning sunshine

Here into my Monday morning rain.

You gave me happiness just one time.

It  keeps on coming back again and again.

You know when your heart is nowhere.

Then you’ve got no place called home.

So you keep on searching for somewhere.

Yet, you’re still just all alone.

It’s time to lay my feet down,

away from Lonely Street.

New adventures are somewhere.

As From day to day I see.

All the people going nowhere.

But, anywhere’s  a better place to be.

Till you brought your Sunday morning sunshine

Here into my Monday morning rain.

You brought me happiness just one time.

It keeps on coming back again and again.

These roads were never my roads

These highways and  the byways.

They were just a way for me

to drift from town to town.

I never thought  I’d find

someone who could love me.

Till finally you were found.

I thought I’d drift forever

In my anguish and my leathers.

Always moving on  but, really nowhere bound.

Till you brought your Sunday morning sunshine

Here into my Monday morning rain.

You gave me happiness just one time.

It keeps on coming back again and again.
