Holiday Inspiration

Holiday Inspiration

The homeless man was found under the bridge.
He was frozen, arms around what was his.
He was holding a note. What would it say?
It said: I wish you a Happy Thanksgiving Day.

What would bring a man to write this?
He froze to death. Thanksgiving, he did miss.
Yet,—– he wished the best for others.
It must have been the training of his mother.

After learning his name, I checked on his past.
His life of sacrifice was now in the trash.
It seems his entire life was helping others.
He helped all the children and their mothers.

He volunteered to help in every way.
In every circumstance almost every day.
Yet, he ended up homeless and alone.
Through his last message his kindness shown.

This man was a saint in every way.
When asked about it, what did he say?
“It is always better to give than to receive.”
“I only wish I could fill everyone’s need.”

For such a man there’s a place in heaven.
When he arrives the Lord will say “Kevin.”
“You are an example of all I am.”
“You are an example to every man.”

But, here on earth, he froze to death.
No roof for his head. He had nothing left.
His story made front page news.
He was finally given his dues.

Let his life be an example to all men.
As the Thanksgiving festivities grow dim.
Let’s all be more giving this holiday season.
Just love one another, if no other reason.

Remember Thanksgiving

Remember Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is a special day.
It is fun in every way.
A gathering of family and friends.
How much you eat all depends.
Normally it will be a lot.
The food is yummy. It’s the tops.
You can watch movies or just chat.
Sometimes a game is where it’s at.
Enjoy all the brotherly love.
Give thanks to God above.
Not everyone will have it so good.
Pray for our soldiers, if you would.
Pray for the homeless and others.
Also small children and their mothers.
Remember the pilgrims and their times.
Pray for peace and decrease of crimes.
It is a time to enjoy one another.
Treat them all like your long lost brother.
Pig out, if you so desire.
Then, take steps to be admired.
Help with cleanup and other chores.
Never lay around and say you’re bored.
This is a time to give thanks.
If you are healthy and well, give thanks.
Never bitch and complain.
All other days, you can do the same.
Make Thanksgiving a day to remember.
Then, plan for the next one in December.

‘Black Friday’ Fanatics

‘Black Friday’ Fanatics

A cold, cold wind was coming out of the North.
It was freezing anyone who would go forth.
Yet, into that ,soon to be, blizzard we would go.
If we would live or not, we did not know.
The rivers were solidly frozen over.
The mountain passes had snow to your shoulder.
We had snowshoes. We prayed it was enough.
To fall into a crevasse would be real tough.
We all hooked together with a rope.
If one of us would fall there was little hope.
We traveled during the meager light.
We buried ourselves in snow caves at night.
We were popsicles by the time we got there.
So cold that we couldn’t feel the air.
But, we managed to arrive in time.
We were the very first in line.
The ‘Black Friday’ sale started in the morning.
Soon, many more showed up without warning.
But, we were first so we could get the best.
I say to hell with all the rest.

Halloween Ghost Story

Halloween Ghost Story

“I found something. Come and see.”
“What was it? You can tell me.”
“You have to see it, first of all.”
“Sounds fishy, but I’ll answer your call.”
I followed him down several streets.
Excited, but trying to look discreet.
“Where the hell are you leading me?”
“Just a little further and you will see.”
We came to a dirty, filthy, narrow alley.
“In here.” We went in. It seemed a folly.
“It stinks in here”, I said loudly.
“Shhesh”, he said. Almost a little pouty.
“Be quiet. It’s right up here.” He said.
Mysteries were running through my head.
We came to stairs leading down.
“What the hell?” I said with a frown.
“It doesn’t go under either building.”
“It leads straight down.” He said, beholding.
“What is down there?” I said with fear.
That’s what we’ll find out” he said in my ear.
“Are you nuts” I said with fright.
He said “I have 2 flash lights.”
He gave me one and started down.
I followed. I didn’t want to look like a clown.
We went down unbelievably far.
No doors, windows, or even bars.
Suddenly, it leveled out and widened.
I think I was on the verge of crying.
The room was big. We couldn’t see the walls.
Cobwebs and dust covered all.
We walked on, though I was shaking.
It was bad. I thought things were quaking.
Soon we saw subway type tracks.
Up ahead, we saw a little shack.
There was a sign hanging on the shack.
SUBWAY STATION 13 it read.
I couldn’t believe what it said.
“There is no station 13 on the subway?”
“They must have closed it years ago, some way.”
We looked around for awhile, then we left.
I went to the library next day to check.
I found out it was closed many years before.
Reason: It was a real story of horror.
Several people had been murdered down there.
Rumors of ghosts were heard everywhere.
People quit going to that station.
It was closed down. They said for sanitation.
I knew for sure I wasn’t going back there.
I would rather go almost anywhere.
Except there. Ghosts and I do not agree.
I would much rather feel safe and free.

Your Birthday

      Your Birthday

A birthday comes but once a year.

There is really nothing to fear.

A birthday means you are still alive.

If they stop it means you’ve died.

All your friends will wish you well.

They hope you are doing swell.

They say you’re as old as you feel.

Hopefully, you are still able to kneel.

Bow down and give thanks to God.

Thank Him for another year. It’s not odd.

Take time to party with friends and family.

I hope things are as good as they can be.

I always say I am as young as my mind.

I have enjoyed childhood a long, long time.

Life is what you make it to be.

Keep a positive outlook and you will see.

Wonderful things will come your way.

You will enjoy every single day.

A birthday is icing on the cake.

So make the most of it. It’s what it takes.

It is your personal holiday, just for you.

Make the most of it. I will too.

Father’s Day

      Father’s Day

It is Father’s Day today.

This is a very special day.

Similar to what Mother’s Day was.

A day to thank father for what he does.

Most father’s are the family head.

Mothers will show you how to make a bed.

But, father’s will be your protector.

He is the bread winner, or a defector.

You’ve heard of ‘dead beat dads’?

Well, all dads are not.—– I’m glad.

A real dad will be there for you.

You can come to him when you need to.

He will be understanding & give support.

He will be loving without a snide retort.

He will be a role model for his son.

If you’re a daughter, you’re his only one.

He will treat all his children with pride.

All are the apple of his eye.

He will be loving, generous, and kind.

He will help you with what’s on your mind.

He will go out of his way for you.

He is always there when you need him to.

He will be supportive in every way.

Yet, he will set boundaries for your play.

A father has a special role to fill.

Easier,  if you follow your Heavenly Father’s will.

Everyone in the family should look up to him.

He will lead them to a lifelong win.

Some father’s fall short of this goal.

But, if you were really in the know.

There were usually reasons for his short comings.

Though, he was probably good at some things.

Regardless of what type your father is.

This day is set aside to be his.

So show him all your love for him.

Doing so is not a sin.

If you are male, you may be a father too.

What is good for your father is good for you.

Mother’s Day

      Mother’s Day

Tomorrow is Mother’s Day again.

Once a year we honor them.

My mother is no longer around.

She stepped into tomorrow, I found.

It is an easier way to look at death.

Thank God,  her memory hasn’t  faded yet.

For all with mothers still alive.

Tomorrow, her special day will arrive.

Treat her to a special meal or outing.

Maybe flowers or candy. No pouting.

Tell her you love her because you do.

Without her, you wouldn’t be you.

Being a mother is a very tough job.

God didn’t want this to be odd.

He made a woman ready to do the job.

It is a job that really reflects God.

Not all mothers are loved by their own.

Often, it is not her fault, it is shown.

The cases where a mother has fallen short,

there are extenuating circumstances to sort.

Most of us love our mothers with good reason.

To say we don’t would fall just short of treason.

Our mothers gave their lives to raise us right.

A mother’s love for their offspring is no respite.

So do your best to make her proud.

Make your love stand out in the crowd.

God would do no less for me & you.

Your mother is special. She loves you too.

Easter Remembered

      Easter Remembered

Today is Easter. A time to remember.

A sacrifice made, so loving and tender.

Though today’s Easter may not be right.

It’s not the day, as much as the site.

What is brought to mind about that day.

The day Jesus has risen & why we pray.

Without his death, there is no forgiveness.

To conquer death was His business.

Easter is about His resurrection.

Now, were assured to make the connection.

We to, can have everlasting life.

Escape all the pain and strife.

Be one with Him who overcame.

Be brought back into the fold in His name.

What greater thoughts can there be.

Dwell on this. Keep Easter free.

Free from the bunnies and eggs.

Free from all the pagan mistakes.

Give thanks to the Lord for all He has done.

For, without Him, we would be done.

St. Patrick’s Day

      St. Patrick’s Day

I wonder what I’m going to do.

Spending St. Patrick’s Day without you.

Shamrocks are hanging everywhere.

There is hardly any space to spare.

A light rain is falling now.

I have to feel it is good, somehow.

A rainbow can be brightly seen.

The gold at the end is just a dream.

Yet, if you arrive, that’s better than gold.

It will be great to have you to hold.

I am hoping a leprechaun didn’t nab you.

Hold you captive for a bit of stew.

Just kick him in his money sack.

Run like hell and come on back.

I am just joking around.

Killing time till you get to town.

I know there is a chance you won’t make it.

But, my St. Patrick’s wish is you won’t fake it.

You will arrive with time to spare.

Ready to go almost anywhere.

Then, we will go celebrate in Irish style.

After eating corned beef & cabbage, with a smile.

We will make this into a special day.

Special for us; our St. Patrick’s Day.—–R. W. Johnson—–(2015)
