Only God Can Set You Free

Only God Can Set You Free

He was in a deep dark hole and he couldn’t get out.

Terrible, screaming  demons were all about.

A black tunnel loomed ahead.

Barely room to squeeze in his head.

There was a little more room once he was inside.

The walls were slimy and slick. Nowhere to hide.

He tried to run, run for his life.

Where were his kids?  Where was his wife?

How did he ever get into this jam.

He was just your “average Joe”  man.

He taught philosophy at the local college.

He felt he had a well rounded knowledge.

That evening a student brought up evil & sin.

He said “There is no evil. It all comes from within.”

“As far as that goes, it’s the same with God.”

“But, don’t you believe in the devil or God?”

“They are a crutch for man’s inner fears.”

“Man uses them to explain the world’s tears”

Students were shocked to hear such talk.

One of them told him that he should not mock.

He just laughed and said “They don’t exist.”

He looked to heaven and shook his fist.

On his way home that very night.

The sidewalk opened up and he fell from sight.

Now, he’s in this nightmare pit.

Running and fearing this night would be it.

He dodged demons and horrible sights.

They all glowed though it was dark as night.

He screamed, he pleaded, he ran some more.

Nowhere was there an open door.

He could not find a way out of this hell.

Many times, he tripped and fell.

After, what seemed like hours,  he hit a dead end.

Trapped with monsters & demons closing in.

He screamed “God save me” without a thought.

Deep inside he knew what denial had brought.

Then he noticed light off to the side.

A very narrow crack where he might hide.

He squeezed in and it started to slope up.

He started crawling though it was very rough.

After a long climb he got out.

He was in front of his home. He gave a shout.

Falling to his knees,  he prayed from within.

“Lord, forgive me for all of my sins.”

“I know I led those students  astray.”

“Give me one more chance, I pray.”

After a long time, he got to his feet

The hole was no longer in the street.

He went home and told his wife.

Told her how he almost lost his life.

He told her how he got it back again.

He told her he no longer wanted to sin.

He told his class he was saved by grace.

They could tell by seeing his face.

He said “There is evil, demons, and sin.”

“They have all been defeated, thanks to Him”

“There is only one way to overcome”

“Let Jesus save you. He is the one.”————R. W. Johnson—-(2012)

The World Of The Duck / A Perfect World

The World Of The Duck

Have you ever felt like

you ran out of luck?

Enter now the

world of the duck.

Everything you do

Is not working for you.

You feel knocked around

like a hockey puck.

Enter now, the

world of the duck.

You pray to God;

Lord, give me a job.

Your busted, your broke.

You don’t have a buck.

Enter now,

the world of the duck.

Just take to the skies.

Get out of the rut.

Similar to the

world of the duck.

Be foot loose and fancy free.

Swim all around, splashing with glee.

Keep your feet

away from the muck.

Enter now, the

world of the duck.——————-R. W. Johnson——(1994)

In A Perfect World

Alcohol would not be addictive.

Chasing women would not be wicked.

Popping drugs would cause no ills.

What is left to produce the thrills?

Things would soon become a drag.

Using alcohol and drugs would lag.

No, that’s not a perfect place.

Not for this here human race.

What we need is a higher power.

To see the beauty in a flower.

To love nature on a sunny day.

To learn to love and how to play.

We need God to show us how.

Then a perfect world can be ours now.——R. W. Johnson—–(2005)

The Valley Of Decision

The Valley Of Decision

Life is more than women and wine.

You have to  settle down sometime.

I know, I know, you say party on bro.

Life is just one great big show.

Tell me, since your such a bright guy.

Do you feel the parade is passing you by?

Think about it for awhile.

Don’t just sit there with a smile.

Here is some words for thought.

Read them but, don’t get distraught.

You’ve got to walk that lonesome valley.

You’ve got to walk it by yourself.

Oh, nobody can walk it for you.

You’ve got to walk it by yourself.

“What the hey?” I hear you say.

“What’s that got to do with today?”

Think about it. You’re  a party guy.

When you leave you’re pretty high.

Then here comes the bad luck.

You get run over by a truck.

Do you think you will be ready to go?

With all that parting & putting on a show.

If your mind has a little doubt.

Think about it. You’ll figure it out.

You’ve got to walk that lonesome valley.

You’ve got to walk it by yourself.

Oh, nobody else can walk it for you.

You’ve got to walk it by yourself.

I think you’re starting to see the light.

You can drink and party all night.

But, no matter what you do.

You can never run away from you.

Someone loves enough to forgive

all you’ve done to try to live

in a world full of sin and hate.

Turn to Him before it’s too late.

He will give you peace of mind.

He’ll love you till the end of time.

You’ve got to walk that lonesome valley.

You’ve  got to walk it by yourself.

Oh, nobody else can walk it for you.

You’ve got to walk it by yourself.————-R. W. Johnson—–(2012)

The Road Of Life

      The Road Of Life

Wandering down the road of life.

I turn to the left. I turn to the right.

No dead ends seem to be in sight.

There were a few rough roads .

With ruts and some potholes.

There were speed bumps too.

Especially when I met you.

There were times when I could speed.

Other times were slow with signs to heed.

If I didn’t follow the rules.

I paid for it like any fool.

I’ve had some wrecks along life’s way.

I’ve broken down, or so others say.

I didn’t win any spectacular races.

But, I didn’t lose the smiling faces.

Loving people all around.

Keeping my feet on the ground.

Keeping me on the straight & narrow.

Heading truer than an arrow.

Straight into the promised land.

The race will end with prize in hand.———R. W. Johnson—–(2012)

The Church

      The Church

People wait to greet you at the door.

One taste of God and; enlightened,

nothing but God will do anymore.

Someone must watch for the frightened.

They will sneak out shortly after coming in.

It is up to the enlightened

to convince them to stay within.

Sometimes, others will go out

who have been there a good while.

They let their light go out.

They leave without a parting smile.

Many that stay are all aglow.

They are very excited

to tell others & help them grow.

To be disciples, they have decided.

There are bigots, Pharisees, & preachers.

Devout Christians & humble, gentle people.

There are loving Bible teachers.

There are other, less friendly, people.

But, something is there

that draws people in.

It’s not that people care

or a hospital for people who sin.

It is the house of God.

His spirit abides there

in each believer. No matter how odd.

In the end, God really does care.————–R. W. Johnson—–(2002)

The Road Into The Unknown / He Knows

The Road Into The Unknown

We are all just travelers

on the road into the unknown.

We are aware of the architect of power.

Even though we know not where we are going.

The power will ripen the reactive void within you.

Like a womb accepting a seed.

Open yourself to what is unfamiliar to you.

So that the power, which is what you need,

can flow into you & make you whole.

You must become one with the power.

Let Him build, create, and mold

till there is no separating you from the power.

Then, you will be one

who will know we are all

on the road to Kingdom Come.—————-R. W. Johnson—–(2002)

He Knows

Yes, He knows

where broken dreams go.

Where heartaches & loneliness

rule the soul.

Where people cry

in agony,

to cast aside

their memories.

Where hope is just

a four letter word.

And misery is

all that is heard.

Yes, He knows.

But, still it’s true.

Because He knows,

there’s hope for you.—————-R. W. Johnson—–(2002)

The Gift

The Gift

Glowing in the darkness was the gift.

Like shadows glistening in the night.

Bedded down about the “old one” where he sits,

the entire herd was safe in the meager light.

At the first hint of smoke she sprang to action.

Pushing open the door, the horses ran to freedom.

Slowly, with dignity, the horses digging for traction,

She led them up the snowy hill to the “old one.”

The young horses were nervous & gave a whine.

But, calmed as the “old one” came into sight.

She moved up the hill to the safety of the pine

Where the “old one” rested with his wife.

She lay among the animals as one anointed

and gazed at the faces of the “old one” and his wife.

Those she loved she had not disappointed.

Her body, brittle,  with the years of her long life.

She was tired from the long climb and her years;

golden eyes filled with tears as she offered her gift.

Because of love, the couples eyes filled with joy & tears.

They shouted their praise and joy for the gift.

The gift of love and devotion until the end.

The bearer of the gift kneeled in praise.

The “old one” accepted the gift from his friend.

He said “May you always be wise in your ways.”

The Greatest Love

      The Greatest Love

You’ve been burned many times in the past.

You vowed the last time would be your last.

Men no longer rate high on your list.

You say anything is better than this.

I know someone who is worthy.

He is a man who won’t do you dirty.

His name is Jesus. Give Him a chance.

Let it be the start of a real romance.

Fall in love with Him like you have no man.

Give Him a chance. Just hold His hand.

Get to know Him like you knew no other.

Make Him more than a friend or a lover.

Trust Him with all. Even your life.

You will find He is worth the fight.

He will never let you down.

He will always be around.

Worship Him. He is your Lord & creator.

Surrender to Him now rather than later.

Love Him like you’ll never love another.

Love Him more than Father or Mother.

Don’t ever love them any less.

But, put God first. It is for the best.

A love relationship is what He wants.

Love Him completely despite the taunts.

He will bless you in ways you’ve never known.

He longs to give you all you’ve been shown.

To do anything to hurt Him would break your

heart. You will only do what He’s looking for.

You will sacrifice anything for Him.

You would even die for Him.

Such a relationship will be agape love.

Only God can give such love.

But, you’ll enjoy all it entails.

Nothing compares. Everything else pales.

You will have the promise of everlasting life.

Everlasting love without any strife.

How could anyone ask for more.

A love that endures & you’ll adore.———–R. W. Johnson—–(2013)

Ash In The Wind

      Ash In The Wind

Time is short. Save your soul.

Before you become like burning coal.

The creator God up above

can save you with His love.

You can run, but, you can’t hide.

Repent now for every lie.

Every sin that ever was.

Accept the love from God above.

We are only ash in the wind.

The justified end for a life of sin.

Every root and branch burned from within

We are only ash in the wind.

Look around you. You will see.

Things are ending. You can’t flee.

Time to get your life in order.

REPENT NOW!!! That’s an order.

Save yourself while you can.

Or end up in the frying pan.

You will burn till all is gone.

Sin is not allowed to go on.

We are only ash in the wind.

The justified end for a life of sin.

Every root and branch burned from within.

We are only ash in the wind.

You say all is well so why bother.

Things are the same. It’s not hotter.

You will be shocked how fast

end things happen to change your past.

Before you know it it’s too late.

No way then to change your fate.

Satan will be burning too.

He’ll burn the longest. Right by you.

We are only ash in the wind.

The justified end for a life of sin.

Every root and branch burned from within.

We are only ash in the wind.——————–R. W. Johnson—-(2012)

Night Trippin

      Night Trippin

On one side is the darkness.

On the other is the light.

In the middle is the tightrope

Where humans walk day and night.

I want to walk in the light.

Save the darkness for the lonely nights.

Treading this tightrope doesn’t make it right.

But, I want to make it through the night.

The darkness is evil, envy, and strife.

It makes you want to reject the light.

The light is love, kindness, and bliss.

You can never get enough of this.

I want to walk only in the light.

Save the darkness for the lonely nights.

Treading this tightrope keeps one uptight.

I want to make it through the night.———–R. W. Johnson—-(2011)
